How to connect two TVs to one antenna

Quite often there are two in one family, and even 3 TVs, but the antenna is still the same. Many home builders have a natural question: how to connect multiple TVs to one antenna, considering, that they are all in different rooms. This can only be done by using a special TV splitter or splitter.

cable splitter

Strictly speaking, it is a device, which consists of a set of resistances, designed to match wave reactance antenna feeders and multiple television receivers. Splitter, in addition to a stable connection, guarantees support of the passing signal with the minimum attenuation.

On sale you can choose an adapter for two TVs, and if you need to connect 3 TB, then you need to choose a splitter with three outputs.

Advice! When connected to the bus on 3 the output needs to connect three TVs, if less, then connect a ballast resistor to the free port 75 Ohm, which ensures the normal operation of the splitter.

When choosing such a device in the store, first find out from the seller the frequency range, which he misses, to when mounting the line on 3 TVs have no signal problems. Detailed information is in the operating instructions of the device.

Crab splitter

Splitter design (its popular name is CRAB) enclosed in a sturdy case made of brass or silumin (90% aluminum and 10% silicon), which is not prone to corrosion, but much lighter than stainless steel. There are F-plug connectors on the outside: on one side for the antenna, and on the other hand, two or more are TVs. Its scheme is quite simple, usually transformer: one turn of wire, covered with enamel, with a cross section of no more 0,4 mm, which is stretched into rings or tubes of ferrite. The case is closed with a lid, which is sealed or fixed with high-strength glue to enhance tightness.

How much do we connect TV

Before, how to connect and final assembly of the entire line, you need to specify the number of connected TVs. How to connect two TVs to a satellite dish is one question, and if necessary 3, then the circuit will be slightly different and the splitter is used with three outputs. exept this, signal attenuation must be taken into account, which increases as the receivers increase:

  • 1 TV - signal strength is equal to 1/1;
  • two - signal 1/2;
  • 3 - power of all on 1/3.

Therefore, when installing the line on three or more TVs, a signal amplifier is installed. Specialty stores offer a wide selection of such products with characteristics, allowing you to make connections without losing image quality.

Assemble the wiring diagram

Consider the option of connecting two TVs, one of which is in the living room, and the second - in the nursery. We will use an antenna adapter or splitter, which divides the main signal into 2 TVs. Modern equipment is used for the works, soldering iron, we will not need tin and rosin.

Screw sockets are used in the new type splitters: pre-stripped one end of the cable is inserted into the nut, and the second with a similar plug will later be connected to the TV. The central core must be inserted into a special hole in the screw socket of the splitter, and the nut wraps around and presses the copper braid of the cable tightly to the body of the device.

Before starting work, disconnect the products from the mains until the end of all work on connecting TVs to one satellite dish.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. We buy a special coaxial cable with a length of at least 12 m (the signal quality also depends on the correct choice of cable, transmitted) and a splitter with two outputs.
  2. Let's say, that the satellite dish is located on your balcony or loggia, and her cable was already connected to the TV in the living room, then insert this end into the input port on the separator and tighten the nut.
  3. Now cut a small piece no more 20 cm from the skein of cable and put on its end standard plugs. How to properly crimp the cable, shown in the photo - this will be the connection №1.
  4. We do a similar crimp on the last section of the cable - it connects the signal splitter and connects the TV in another room.
  5. Insert the plugs into the appropriate slots on the body of the splitter, connect to TVs.
  6. Cable, going to the nursery, should be placed along the plinth, so as not to step on it. To reduce its length, you can drill an adjacent wall between the rooms. Now your child will be happy - he has a personal TV.
  7. After connecting the satellite antenna to both TVs, we check the image quality of each device. When distortion is detected, you need to check the connection or redesign the cable clamp.

The figure shows the connection diagram a) 2-x TVs and b) - option for 3 TVs.

How to amplify the signal

Many users complain, that when they are up to one antenna (satellite or simple) connected two TVs, then the image became much worse. There is nothing unusual in this - that's the thing, that the splitter only divides the signal. To eliminate such a negative phenomenon, you need to use a special TV amplifier, which is arranged almost similarly to a crab, but there are resistors and a chip.

It requires a separate meal, therefore at its installation it is necessary, so that there is a socket or transfer nearby.

television amplifier

It is best to place the amplifier as close to the antenna as possible, and from it already to make branches: example, for our case one branch goes to the living room, and the other in the nursery. Experts advise not to use a splitter in this case, and to manage installation of the amplifier - will manage more expensively, but the signal quality will be high.

There is another option to get rid of obstacles (and you can also greatly improve the signal quality) - Put special ferrite rings on the cable connecting to the TVs. You can do this by not looking at the part of the cable, next to the connection to the antenna input to the TV. Such obstacle cutters are installed, example, on the laptop adapter wire - a small cylindrical device on the cord next to the plug connecting the cord to the computer. There are other ways, how to amplify the signal from the antenna. Also do not forget, that the signal quality depends on the antenna itself, so it is worth knowing, how to choose it correctly. If you have the skills to work with soldering equipment, then you can even make a quality antenna with your own hands. And then you don't have to think, why your TV does not pick up the signal.
