How to properly lubricate the gearbox in the drill: instruction, types of lubrication and a detailed description of the procedure

Each tool needs timely maintenance, and perforators need it first. After all, the work of this tool is accompanied by a huge number of reciprocating movements and movements, and the amount of dust emitted from the working object has a higher concentration. Under these operating conditions, requires careful care of the device and timely replacement of oil in the perforator reducer.

Most users are sure, that if oil is present, then you can work with it indefinitely. This opinion is usually common among users due to poor knowledge of the laws of physics, therefore we will tell about the mechanism of work of oil in more detail.

What is perforator oil and why do you need it??

Lubricant is a viscous substance, designed to minimize the coefficient of friction between the parts of the tool. Reduce, rather than completely clean up. That is, this means, that the friction between the parts is almost always there, and part of the small particles is separated from the tool and enters the oil itself. After some time, this oil-saturated oil no longer performs its direct function. At first, its viscosity simply changes, and later the oil itself causes rapid wear of the tool parts. Viscosity is considered the main parameter, which you need to pay attention to when buying it.

The manufacturer must indicate in the technical documentation all the characteristics of the tool and lubricate the mass, which to use. Great attention should be paid to the frequency of maintenance, where indicated, after some time it is necessary to change the lubricant.

For hammer drill, which has a quality certificate, be sure to use only branded lubricants, otherwise after tool failure, you lose the right to warranty service. After the warranty period is also better to use the manufacturer's recommended lubricant, but at this time, most often, the user uses cheaper domestic analogues. Litol or solidol will not harm your tool. But do not forget, that litol is produced much faster, that is, its replacement should be done much more often.

What is needed to lubricate the perforator reducer?

This oil is also demanding to the operating temperature. But this does not mean, that lithol cannot be used. There are factors, when during the use of domestic lubricating fluid only increases the impact force of the tool and reduces the noise level. This is especially true for the perforator of the Chinese assembly.

Users of Chinese tools do not expect warranty service, therefore act at their own discretion from the very beginning of operation of the perforator (or electric drills). As the perforator of any manufacturer has the basic features of a design, then there is simply no single instruction on lubrication. The main thing, to have on hand:

  • duds;
  • instructions for use of the perforator;
  • branded oil or its domestic counterpart.

And, as you already understood, we follow the instructions clearly. And remember, that in any case the perforator needs to be cleaned as much as possible from a dust after work. Watch it, that the level of oil was no more than a control mark. Most often, the drill has a special container for lubricant, that is, to do all this procedure will not be difficult.

It is not advisable to lubricate the gear unit in the perforator immediately after operation, because hot parts when exposed to cold lubricants lose their physical characteristics. The drill shank should also be lubricated with lithol or solid oil. If the perforator has an open cartridge, it is desirable to process an epiploon. First you need to disassemble it and wipe it thoroughly. The applied oil will allow to prolong service life of the device and will protect from dust getting inside the tool..   • for drill bits;
  • for drilled.

Is it possible to disassemble the perforator reducer yourself?

The gear reducer requires a lot of attention. It is not so difficult to lubricate the gearbox parts, but before the end of the warranty period, it is undesirable to be engaged in oil of a perforator. You will be able to disassemble the gearbox in any case, but not everyone will be able to collect it. With the problem of gear lubrication, it is desirable to contact a branded service center or specialized workshops. This is a rather delicate work, therefore, it is desirable to entrust it to professionals. But there are cases, when this nearest center is far away from you, so you need to lubricate the gearbox yourself.

During disassembly, pay attention to all the details. Some of them have no oil at all. It does not mean, that the oil on them has already been used. Just some of the parts of the gearbox can not be processed. You also do not need to lubricate them. During disassembly, we try to remember as much as possible the location of parts and the order of their disassembly. So, you will not have "extra" spare parts when assembling. All parts of the gear unit must be thoroughly rinsed with petrol (or spindle) and wipe dry with a rag. It is necessary to wash also the case of a reducer inside. It is not necessary to hurry up with assembly: allow the case to dry well.

Why the perforator overheats?

And now we lubricate all parts of the gearbox and assemble it in reverse order. Do not forget, that excessive amounts can also affect the performance of the tool: the heat of the gearbox may increase significantly.

If the perforator starts to heat up more than usual during operation, that does not mean, that there is a problem with lubrication. Likely, you have been using the grooving mode for a very long time and the oil simply did not pass to all parts of the perforator in the right amount.

Another reason may be clogging of the holes for cooling the motor. In this case, the solution is one: clean the tool from dust and temporarily switch it to another operating mode. If the perforator will work for half an hour like a normal electric drill, then the body temperature will drop significantly. The gear unit must have the same temperature in any mode of operation of the perforator.

Features of maintenance of an electric drill with function of a perforator

Much more difficult to maintain electric drills, which works with the function of a perforator. This hybrid of tools has some drawbacks, unlike the usual perforator:

  • they do not have special containers for pouring lubricant;
  • it is much more difficult to maintain the drill chuck.

Constant oil is needed only for the tip of the drill. The amount of oil is minimal: just clean the drill from dust and apply a small tip (the size of a match head) the amount of solid oil. The same requirements apply to the drill bit of a conventional perforator. Excessive oil on the storm will not damage the tool mechanism, but it is sprayed in any case and can damage the repair of the premises. And here if oil is brought in a reducer in excess, then it just leaks.

It is necessary to tell a little about professional perforators. In home use of this tool, usually, does not happen. Here, first of all, the price of the tool plays a role, therefore, it is chosen much less often. But this tool is considered the simplest and most unpretentious in operation. There are usually no problems with lubricating this tool, because the design of the mechanism is very simple.

The gearbox also does not have any features, which will complicate its maintenance. It's simple: unscrew the drain valve, pour the used oil into the container, wash the perforator oil tank, screw the drain hole and pour new oil to the desired mark. The reducer of this perforator is serviced in the same way, as described above.

How to choose oil for a perforator?

Most often, the instructions for each device indicate the required oil for the perforator reducer. Example, there is a special lubricant P08361 for Makita perforators. Other formulations are suitable for Bosch. Branded lubricants have the required water resistance and prevent corrosion. If information, than to lubricate the perforator, no, then you can use some other tools. But you need to find out from a store consultant, whether they fit specifically for your drill.

One of the most popular means is diesel oil. Graphite oil is also quite good, it is most often used for open worm gears. Litol is also popular 24, but this lubricant also causes braking and additional heating. And it works for a relatively short time, in contrast to branded oil for perforators and cordless tools is highly undesirable.

How to lubricate the perforator and what is needed for this?

Usually, Many users have a question - how often and what to lubricate in the drill? Since the intensity of operation of all devices is different. Some work with a perforator once a year, and some use it all the time for various works. Experts recommend looking at the number of loads, as well as on the recommendations in the technical passport. The next question, which arises in users - how to lubricate the hammer with your hands? Example, the warranty period has expired or you just decided to do all the work at home. Modern perforators have a special compartment, in which oil is poured. Most often, the instructions indicate, where exactly is this hole. The disassembly scheme must also be indicated here. The amount of oil is poured into the hole, which is required (this is stated in the instructions). But before you do that, it is necessary to wash out a crankcase with engine oil or gasoline. If there is no special hole and the perforator must be disassembled, then it can be blown along the way.

Only after purging and rinsing can you start lubricating. It is not necessary to grease the transfer coupling and other sites, which do not need oil. In addition to the gearbox, if necessary it is possible to process oil of drills and other replaceable nozzles. Suitable for this purpose "Litol". If the cartridge is open in the tool, it can be treated with oil and oil seal. But you need to apply a small amount of oil to these places. It is advisable to do this before each installation of the nozzle, after its removal by all means wipe a shank from a dust.
