But, if you look at the situation from the user's point of view, then pay big money for a new cartridge, which costs almost half the price of a new printer, does not make sense. That's why Brother Laser owners often resort to this procedure, as uncoupling or zeroing the meter, which you can do yourself.
Why do you need to reset the meter
Unlocking is the procedure for changing hardware settings. The protection itself operates on the following principle:
- the manufacturer installs a special meter in the system;
- the chip counts the number of sheets used during printing, and, after the cartridge life is exhausted, signals this to the user, blocking the device.
Each cartridge has its own resource. There are containers for toner, designed for 2500 sheets, and there are - on 1000 sheets. According to the number of sheets, programmable and chip. When the press limit is exceeded, the message "Replace consumables" appears, "No toner", or the indicator just flashes. But, although you will be able to refill the new toner, the chip will still count, that the cartridge is empty, and will not allow the device to work. To get rid of this problem, a method of resetting the meter was invented.
Resetting the TN-1075 cartridge
The TN-1075 cartridge is common in Brother laser printers. It is installed, example, such models of devices: DCP 1510r, dcp 1512r, MFC-1810R (1815R), HL-1110R (1112R).
The printing module consists of 2 parts: TN-1075 cartridges and DR-1075 drum unit.
To reset the counter on the TN-1075 cartridge, exist 2 ways, which are applied depending on, do you have a starting model, which has no crescent-shaped gears, or already purchased variable.
Starter cartridge
so, if the brother printer has an inscription: "Replace toner", then do, as described below.
- Release the paper tray and remove the module from the machine.
- Separate the cartridge unit from the drum, by pressing the blue key on the right.
- Insert the drum unit back into the brother printer. In its left part you can see the hole, from which the reset button is visible.
- To click on this checkbox, there is only one way. You can only reach it through the tray, in which the paper is inserted. You have to remember, where the check box is located, as the reset will take place with the lid closed.
- Knowing, where is the button, click on it and cover the unit cover. Don't be afraid, that something will happen to your finger - there are no moving parts in this place. so, after closing the lid, turn on the engine. As soon as you hear his work, immediately release the button and through 1 second press it again. Wait in this position, until the engine stops.
- About that, that the operation was successful, you can determine by flashing the green LED. If this does not happen, then repeat all over again.
- Insert the cartridge into the drum unit. This completes resetting the brother printer counter.
Purchased cartridge TN-1075
in addition, that the counter can be reset with the button, there is another easy way to reset the printer brother.
- Remove the drum unit cartridge and unscrew the side cover on the side, where the gears are visible.
- Carefully remove the cover, so that the gears do not fall asleep. You will only need to pull out one gear, as shown in the following figure.
- Further, you will see a crescent-shaped gear, which must be returned to the stop, as shown in the photo below.
- You can now insert the gear in place, previously extracted.
- Carefully close the lid, so that the crescent-shaped gear does not shift.
- Screw on the cover and place the drum unit cartridge.

Software way to reset the brother HL-2130R printer (2132R)
To do a software reset of the printer counter, do the following:
- turn on the device (after turning on you will hear the noise of the drive);
- after the noise disappears, open the lid, located in front of the unit;
- turn off the machine;
- press the "Go" key and do not release it, until the unit switches on again (the "ready" indicator should not light up;
- release the "Go" key;
- double click "Go" again;
- click on "Go" 5 times in a row;
- close the lid (front).
Now the "ready" indicator is lit with even light. After these manipulations and reboot the device, laser hl 2130r (2132) can be considered zero and ready to work.
Software method for resetting the DCP 7055r MFP
To reset the counter programmatically MFP dcp 7055r, go through the following points:
- press the "Menu" key;
- then select "General settings", then click "OK";
- in the next step select "Replace toner" and again "OK";
- use the arrows on the control panel to select "Continue" and click "OK";
- to exit the menu, click the "Clear" button;
- the counter was reset.
This way you can reset the counter only once. For the next zeroing you need to use the hardware method.
Software reset method DCP-7057r
Resetting the MFC DCP-7057r is slightly different from the DCP 7055r:
- turn on the PRINTER and wait, until the mechanics subside;
- then open the lid, located in front of the device;
- click the "Cancel" button ("Back" or "Stop");
- click on the "Start" key;
- press the up arrow button, then several times on the down arrow key, until you see it on the display 2 zeros (00);
- click "OK", and the front cover can be closed.
If, when these 2 methods did not help, then you can reset through the MFP system menu.
- Check first, to turn off your MFP.
- Press and hold the Menu key.
- Turn on the machine, holding the key.
- After, as you will see the blinking inscription on the screen of the device, release the "Menu" key.
- Wait a while, while the word "MAINTENANCE" is displayed on the screen.
- Use the arrow keys to find the item 81, then confirm the selection by clicking "OK".
- "RESET DRUM COUNT" appears on the screen. After clicking the "Start" button, message will change to "RESET LIFE COUNT". Press "Start" again.
- Use the arrow keys to select an item 96 and confirm with the "OK" button.
- Reboot the unit. To do this, you need to turn it off and off again. This completes resetting the counter.
Hardware reset method
You can also reset the MFP hardware. To do this, proceed as follows.
- After, when "Replace Toner" appears on the MFP display, remove the cartridge from the device.
- On the starter cartridge you will see a black cap with a slight accent, which must be cut with a knife.
- The next step is to remove the spring from the flag.
- The spring should not be thrown away. You install it, if you want to change the starter cartridge to purchase one.
- Next, insert the cartridge, unhook the lever and hide it (drown) in the MFP building.
- Use a match or screwdriver to press on the sensor, located on the right, which is responsible for the closed lid.
- When you hear the work of mechanics, press 2 times per box with a screwdriver. You need to click yes, so that you can do it 2 pressing for 4 seconds. In case of failure, you can try again.
- After, as the counter will be successfully reset, you will see an inscription on the screen (div. photo below).
- Now you need to print a test page, containing information about the state of the toner and the drum unit. To do this, press the "Menu" key, select "Device Information" and "User Settings". Confirm your choice, by pressing the "Start" key.
- If you did everything right, the test page will be printed.
At this stage, the MFP can be considered fully operational.
