Today there are many ways to make a metal detector at home on their own, without the help of specialists. Some of them require some knowledge of physics, as well as skills in working with electrical and radio devices. Others do not require any special skills, and any beginner will be able to assemble a metal detector at home.
How to make a metal detector from disks
It is quite easy to make a metal detector at home with your own hands using two discs - CD and DVD. This method is very simple and does not require any complex components. Everything, what is needed for this, it:
- CD and DVD disc. It is desirable to take bilateral, then the sensitivity of the metal detector will be much higher.
- Be at hand, calculator, you can take the simplest and cheapest
- headphone
- battery size "crown"
- glue and insulating tape
Sequence of actions
- The headphone plug needs to be cut off, and then strip both wires from the insulation by about 10 centimeters.
- We divide each wire into two. So, a total of four wires or two pairs of wires.
- Now one pair of steam should be fixed with glue on the disk, if the drive is one-sided, glue the wire should be on the printing side.
- Now the wire should be fixed on the disk with insulating tape. Glue the insulating tape should be on part of the wires in the insulation, glue and the wire in it should not be touched.
- The remaining wires must be connected to the battery, plus and minus respectively. The next step is to carefully insulate the bare wires.
- We take the CD and to its surface (on which the wire is fixed) securely fasten the pre-included calculator with insulating tape.
- A DVD is placed on top of the calculator, after which the whole structure is carefully wrapped with insulating tape for strength.
- Using insulating tape, fix the "Crown" on the surface of the DVD.
The metal detector is ready, you can start testing it. A convenient handle can be attached for easy use of the metal detector. To search for coins and metal in the ground, the power of such a device will not be enough, but in the house it can always be useful. Example, to search for hidden posting, bricked wall or to find a metal profile under a sheet of drywall.
Metal detector with radio and calculator
To make such a metal detector, the following things are needed:
- Empty box from under the CD
- The simplest and cheapest calculator
- Radio, operating on the "AM" frequency
- Double-sided tape or insulating tape
- Nails
- Wooden mop stick
The order of compilation
The sequence of assembly of the device is as follows.
- On the inside of the box from under the CD firmly fasten with double-sided tape radio back. If there is no tape, you can use insulating tape or Velcro.
- The included calculator is attached to the other inner side of the box in the same exact way.
- Now you need to turn on the radio, having previously made sure, that it is tuned to the "AM" range. Choose the highest frequency in this range. There should be no radio stations on it, otherwise the metal detector will not work. If the highest frequency is still busy, choose the closest high to it and watch, so that the radio station does not jam the air, that is, only noise and no other sounds could be heard.
- Now we make the handle with our own hands. We fasten a short wooden mop stick in the middle of the box. To do this, use a knife to make a suitable hole in the lid of the box. Push the stick and fix it with nails on both sides so, so that they do not allow the stick to come out of the hole.
- Now you need to configure the metal detector. We begin to slowly close the sash of the box with the calculator and receiver attached to them. When the radio catches the waves emitted by the calculator, a loud sharp sound is heard. Now you need to spread the sash of the box so, that the sound was very weak, but still heard. Let's try to bring the metal detector closer to some metal object. The device must respond with a loud sharp sound. The metal detector assembled with his own hands is ready.
So, you can assemble a metal detector at home with your own hands, even without special knowledge and skills. But keep in mind, that such metal detectors are not suitable for serious searches for metal objects underground, because their range is small. For complex tasks, try to assemble a device like a "butterfly" or "terminator". On the one hand, if all goes well, you can save a good amount of money, but on the other hand, according to experts, such homemade metal detectors do not always work that way, as intended.
