How to make an electric jigsaw and a jigsaw machine with your own hands
The idea of creating a homemade electric jigsaw is often due to shortcomings, which has a factory hand tool. You can make your own small desktop machine, which will include a pusher, reciprocating engine, saw tension system. At the same time you do not need complex drawings - understanding the essence, easy to achieve.
How to make your own installation
The desire to create a homemade electric jigsaw can arise for several reasons:
- There is no power supply in the workshop, but it is possible to use low-power internal combustion engines.
- There are pneumatic engines, but the compressor power is not enough for a serial tool.
- The motor is powered by batteries or solar panels, the power of the source is insufficient for the use of power tools.
- You need to get the parameters of the movement of the saw, unattainable when using a serial tool.
It is not difficult to design an electric jigsaw. A typical structure looks like this:
The installation is easy to adapt to any torque source. A pair of pulleys (one is located on the motor shaft, the other drives the crank mechanism) allow you to vary the gear ratio, reducing the load on the power unit and allowing you to get the right speed (they are responsible for the number of strokes per minute) on the actuator.
Machine, built according to the above scheme, can have a variety of configurations, the material of manufacture is also selected individually. The example of the finished installation looks like this:
Disadvantages of manual electric jigsaw
The manual electric jigsaw is intended for formation of equal cuts. At the same time as the rollers wear out, stock, the pusher can be observed beating the saw and its deviation from the straight line, change the angle of attack. Regardless of the quality of the tool components, the following features are always present:
- At blunting of a saw deviation from a straight line at sawing of material of uneven density is observed (example, Low quality particleboard). The saw is able to leave the cutting line, meeting a twig in the wood.
- When trying to make a curved radial propyl, you can see such a picture: upper cut line, which is monitored by the employee, follows the exact trajectory, lower - deviates, goes to the side, the radius becomes larger. The higher the tool wear and the lower the sharpness of the saw, the more pronounced this phenomenon.
- Some materials cannot be worked with, using a pickup or lower saw feed. From the carpenter it is necessary to lead the tool forward extremely evenly, which cannot be done very precisely, as a result, there is a beating of the saw on the trajectory of entry and exit.
Even harder to work with thin, designed for curved saws. If there is no practice, to achieve a good result is very difficult, especially on a thick plate or wood materials. Consider, how to make a carpenter's job easier, and the result is better.
Standard solutions
The machine from a manual electric jigsaw is made on the basis of a simple table. This device is common, is made serially, samples can be seen in the photos below.
The mechanics of work are simple:
- The jigsaw clearly fixes the tool, ensuring the absence of human influence (the hand can guide the electric jigsaw unevenly).
- The presence of support allows you to move the device without deviations along the trajectory.
With the help of a table jigsaws begin to cut in a straight line, however, the possibilities of such an adaptation are limited. If you remove the side stop and try to drive the workpiece, forming a curved cut, there are the same problems of dust deviation. The problem can be solved by using a simple saw, rigidly fixed pair of rollers. Making curly cuts is now convenient and fast. Tension devices for figured cuts
For performance of very thin and exact figured cuts it is possible to make the machine from an electrofret saw with system of a tension of a saw cloth. The idea of creating with your own hands is as follows:
- A very thin saw is used, ideally for a hand jigsaw.
- A clamp is attached to the power tool rod, which will stretch the cutting blade.
- The trajectory stabilization system will be regulated as one freedom of movement, and two (horizontal and vertical).
As a tension block the clamp of a manual jigsaw is applied, to which the adapter is made, in turn is inserted into the clamping device of the power tool rod. A pair of corners and a bolt are used to ensure the regulation of one freedom of movement. The result of the idea is presented in the next photo.
The saw provides a clear vertical movement, you can create a good tension, however, there is a mandatory beating in the horizontal direction. The canvas comes with a pickup, does not move in a straight line.

The system is stabilized in two degrees of freedom, made with its help cut - neat and accurate. Applying a diamond-coated cord for a hand jigsaw, you can cut glass without forming sloppy chips at the edges.
Adaptations for very fine work
If you need to act very delicately and slowly, it is necessary to reduce efforts on a cutting cloth and at the same time to provide strong tension and exact movement of a saw. To do this, a homemade electric jigsaw is equipped with spacers with long arms.
The power tool does not operate in the cutting area, and at some distance. It allows, depending on the wishes of the carpenter, adjust the effort, speed and amplitude of saw movement. One of the options for implementing the idea is presented in the following photo.
Depending on the needs of the master, the structure can be made of steel, have additional locking zones, the power tool is not installed rigidly, and with the ability to move within its support beam.
In practice, such solutions are rarely used. For fine work, which are performed constantly, it is much more profitable to buy the specialized band saw machine, which will ensure quality and performance.
