How to make a cultivator with a trimmer, lawn mower, motorcycle, snow blower and other devices with your own hands

What you can do with a trimmer yourself, to facilitate daily work or entertainment? This question arises, if there is an old unnecessary device, or what the technician needs to work, which in factory production is much more expensive than gasoline or electric braid. In practice, folk craftsmen have implemented many options. The main ones are motorcycles, snow blower, piolet, devices for cultivating land and mowing lawns, saw, snowmobile equipment. To put the idea into practice, in each case you need to use a certain set of tools and additional materials.

Cultivator assembly

If there is a dacha or just a plot of land, then the cultivator will help facilitate tillage. Sapa is traditionally used for these purposes, but working with it takes a lot of time and effort. Using a cultivator will reduce labor costs, and the whole process will take less time. Factory-made equipment is expensive, therefore, with limited funds, the question arises about self-assembly of the cultivator. Suitable for this as gasoline trimmers, and electric scythes.

To create a simple sample technique, you should stock up on such tools and materials:

  • Bulgarian with a set of discs (corresponding diameter - 125 mm) on metal;
  • drill with drills of different diameters;
  • welding machine;
  • electrodes;
  • electric jigsaw or hacksaw on metal;
  • emery machine with two abrasive wheels of different grain size;
  • functioning gasoline trimmer;
  • pitchforks;
  • a tube of steel of appropriate diameter for the shaft of the mower;
  • hand tools: keys, hammer, pliers, core, tape measure and marker;
  • sheet of metal thick from 3 to 5 mm and a minimum size 10*10 div.

The manufacturing process begins with the working part. Curved garden forks will be used for this purpose. Their recommended length is from 10 to 15 cm - that's enough, to loosen the soil.

The working nozzle is made in the following sequence:

  • the fork teeth are flattened to a width of 1 cm;
  • on emery, using a circle with a fine abrasive, sharpen cutters;
  • with the help of an electric jigsaw cut a circle with a diameter of metal 10 cm;
  • process it on an emery board to achieve almost perfect shape;
  • at regular intervals to the metal circle welded prepared cutters (recommended amount - 3).

With more, than 3 pieces, number of cutters, the load on equipment is strongly increasing.

The recommended power of the gasoline engine should be two horsepower (about 1,5 kw) or more.

The next step is to attach the weeding cutter to the trimmer. The process is greatly simplified in the presence of reverse threads, located at the end of the shaft of the mower, on which the manufactured working part is simply wound. To do this, pre-weld a tube with a nut to the cutter.

In the presence of metalwork experience and skills of the welder to process a trimmer cultivator it is simple enough. The financial costs are insignificant. If an electric scythe is used in the work, then you need to think about extension cords, that he got all over the cultivated area.

Lawn mower with his own hands

The lawn mower facilitates the process of caring for ornamental grasses, and also speeds up work in the presence of large areas, which need to be processed. There are many ready-made equipment on the market, easy to use models, but they are expensive, therefore not available to everyone. They also fail quickly when there are large weeds and rocks in the area. Homemade products are much cheaper, than factory counterparts, in addition, they are more practical to work with.

The components of the lawn mower design are:

  • engine (petrol or electric), which is the basis of the created mechanism;
  • the framework is intended for fastening on it of all details of the device;
  • casing for protection;
  • knives;
  • handles and wheels;
  • the control system unit of the created unit.

The recommended power of the engine used in work - from 0,5 kw (a little less 1 horsepower), and perfect - 1 kW and more.

Folk craftsmen have invented many different ways to process a trimmer into a lawn mower. The simplest option is presented in the video:


The frame variant of the self-made device is very widespread in practice. The tools and materials for self-implementation of the project are the same, as in the previous case. Plus you will still need it:

  • sheet of plywood or metal thick 3-4 mm);
  • metal angle of 25х25 mm;
  • 2 m of pipes of different diameters.

The manufacturing process is as follows:

  • from a corner weld a rectangular framework of 50х60 cm;
  • on corners establish wheels of the necessary size, which can be taken even from old toys;
  • from above on a skeleton fix the plywood cut out with its size or weld metal;

  • in the center of the cart make a hole for the trimmer rod and mounting for it;
  • make a knife or choose the appropriate ready-made option;
  • then fix the mower on the cart;
  • set the knife;
  • mounted to protect against scattering in different directions of the cut grass casing behind the cart;
  • begin testing the device.

Importantly! The diameter of the wheels is selected as follows, so that the knives do not reach the ground 5 centimeters.

There are many ways to make knives, as well as their form is radically different (construction). At the same time use different materials and old tools (example, old saw on wood). The main principle is, that the knives are well sharpened and balanced - this is necessary to prevent vibration of the equipment during operation.

Common, that do not use the old mower, but only the engine from the trimmer and its control unit. In this case it is necessary to make handles for the cart and to fix all details of a design on a framework.

Be sure to observe safety precautions when assembling and working on the mower, to avoid injuries. You can also attach a bag to the grass collection unit.

We make a motorcycle

From the usual bicycle home craftsmen managed to make a more practical vehicle - they rearranged the engine from the mower. At the same time, options with a gasoline engine are practically implemented, and with an electric motor.

Necessary tools, materials and details

The electric motor on the bike is battery powered, whose, depending on the power of the unit (it is taken 0,35-1,2 kw), enough for a while from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Two- or four-stroke gasoline engines are used to redesign the bicycle. The latter option consumes less fuel and is less noisy during operation. The recommended power is from 1,5 l. With., and the best option 2 l. With. When using a motor with a smaller parameter, the motorcycle will barely ride or will not be able to move at all.

Rotational movement from the engine, running on gasoline, to the bicycle wheel is by using a belt or chain drive. Because of this, you will need to make additional details:

  • metal suspension in the form of a frame with sides, to secure the motor to the bicycle frame;
  • driven and leading pulleys or sprockets for mounting to the engine and wheel, respectively.

The use of a chain drive is better in terms of practicality, than a belt, because the belt wears out faster, especially if you get wet regularly.

To implement the project you need to choose the right gearbox. After installation of pulleys choose a belt of the necessary size.

The dimensions of the frame for the engine depend on its dimensions. The suspension itself is fixed to the frame of the motorcycle:

  • bolted connection;
  • by welding.

The latter option is the best in terms of strength, if the welder is good. If the design of the bicycle frame allows, then the suspension is replaced by a clamp, which fix the engine. This mounting option is more practical. The method of locking the engine should be convenient, reliable and allow you to quickly remove it if necessary.

Doing all the work with your own hands in the presence of the old, functioning trimmer, a bicycle and a small set of tools takes time from the performer, as well as patience.

The sequence of assembly of the structure

To assemble a bicycle with a motor, running on gasoline, to be needed, in addition to the considered materials and details, also:

  • controller;
  • cable for adjusting the engine;
  • fuse;
  • exhaust pipe, welded by welding;
  • sleeve;
  • washers;
  • bolts;
  • chain tensioner.

Assembly of a motorcycle is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  • put an asterisk on the rear bicycle wheel;
  • clamp fix the engine (with an asterisk on the shaft) on the frame behind the seat or in the trunk, if the design features of the bicycle allow, otherwise you will need to choose another convenient place for this purpose;
  • put the chain on the sprockets of the wheel and engine;
  • attach the tensioner;
  • adjust the chain tension;
  • fix the gas handle;
  • stretch the cable from it to the engine;
  • fix the fuel tank;
  • mount the carburetor.

For personal safety during the operation of the motorcycle modernize the braking system, change wheel tires for non-slip products, check the integrity and stability of the created structure. After, as the whole structure is assembled, conduct its tests, having previously inspected the shortcomings.

It is recommended to give preference to disc brakes.


Homemade snow blower

There are many options for creating snow removal equipment based on the trimmer. The easiest way to upgrade is to replace the knife with a rotor. This snow blower works like a shovel, but at the same time just move on the snow: the device rakes it and transfers it aside.

The following materials and tools will be needed to carry out the intended processing:

  • mower with a straight bar, at the end of which the reducer is installed;
  • metal barrel, even beer will do, example, from the drink "Baltika";
  • cutter from the trimmer with many teeth (used for mowing thick grass);
  • drill with drills;
  • Bulgarian and welding machine.

Instead of a barrel, you can use a thin sheet of metal (tin) thickness 1,5 mm

The process of assembling the snow blower is performed in the following sequence:

  • cut in a circle, retreating from the bottom 15 cm, barrel;
  • make a hole in the bottom for the gearbox mowers and drill more 3 small holes, to secure his shield;
  • cut a square on the side 10 on 10 cm to throw snow through it;
  • a third of the open front of the barrel is closed with a piece of metal (tin), the ejection hole must be located along the center line of the damper;
  • make a rotor;
  • make a deflector, which will direct snow emissions in the right direction;
  • weld it to the body at the location of the hole for the release of snow mass;
  • fasten the blade from below;
  • install a reducer of a mower and fix bolts;
  • to put a rotor, as a simple working knife.

The deflector does so:

  • cut a strip of metal, whose width 15 cm, and length 30 cm;
  • slightly bend the workpiece;
  • welded on the long sides of the sides 10 cm tall, so that the snow does not scatter at the exit.

The rotor is made in the following sequence:

  • cut rectangular strips the size of a metal sheet 25 on 10 cm;
  • cut and grind the plates in the shape of blades;
  • weld them crosswise to the disk from the mower.

A spatula is made from the remains of the material. To do this, use a piece of tin 30 on 40 div. The edges bend along the long sides, to form a two-centimeter ledge.

The hand-made snow removal mechanism should be used at full throttle - this will extend the life of the device, because frequent pressure on the gas leads to engine failure. Fine metal is difficult to weld together, because it easily burns it through. Therefore, the work must be performed by an experienced welder.


Ice drill with petrol scythes

Gasoline can be converted into an ice drill. Factory counterparts are quite complex and powerful devices. Structurally, the technique is connected to the engine (in most cases two-stroke units are installed) auger. Industrial devices are equipped with automatic safety systems, which turn off the ice drill in case of failure and eliminate the possibility of accidental start. Models also differ in the number of speeds: one - or two-speed.

For fans of winter fishing to buy a factory unit is expensive, and a manual device with a large thickness of ice is difficult to work with. Converting an old trimmer into an ice auger will help save energy and resources.

In addition to petrol scythes, the work will require a storm (factory or homemade) and tools for assembling the final design. The difficulty lies in attaching the working part to the trimmer. Here a lot depends on the existing model of mowers.
