Dimensions of hoods for the kitchen: installation rules above the hob
The market of cleaning devices offers a huge choice of equipment with various parameters. If productive capacity, mounting method, the mode of operation is determined by the user to his liking, then the size is more complicated. For each room with a stove suitable hood only a certain parameter. This is done for that, that the cleaning technics optimally fit over a cooking surface and effectively coped with the tasks: removal of foreign odors and impurities, cleaning the air in the room. If you choose the wrong dimensions - the kitchen hood will not cope with its functional responsibilities in full. In the article we will tell, how to correctly determine the size of the hoods for the kitchen, and what should be taken into account.
A variety of parameters of kitchen hoods
Width is the most important criterion of the cleaning device. The performance of the device largely depends on this parameter, its ability to filter and purify air. Manufacturers offer many options: the sizes of an extract on width happen from 45 to 90 div.
Manufacturers are constantly improving the models of cleaning structures, using not only innovative materials, as well as various forms. Therefore, to choose the optimal device will not be difficult.
Features of the choice of the size
so, the main parameter for any exhaust system is their width. At its choice it is necessary to consider dimensions of a cooking surface or a plate: the latter should be a little narrower. This condition is explained by the fact, that combustion products, fat mixtures, evaporation must be fully involved in the cleaning technique. Therefore the air outlet is established strictly over a plate.
Do not neglect the general parameters of the kitchen set, since the exhaust device is mounted between the upper cabinets or built into one of them.
Width 50-60 cm is standard, therefore, such cleaning equipment is the largest on the market (see a review of kitchen hoods wide 60 cm). Large in width devices - up to 90 cm - have higher performance and more powerful. They are suitable for a spacious room with a wide cooking surface. For small kitchens, a small appliance is ideal. Hood width 45 cm will fit optimally over a narrow plate, which is less than or equal to this value. In this case, the compact size is the advantage of the device.
What to look for when choosing depth and height
These parameters must also be taken into account when arranging the cooking zone. Consider, how to choose the depth and width of cleaning equipment.
Depth selection
This parameter is taken into account for dome and built-in air vent. Modern models of dome hoods have a square shape, that is, the depth of these devices is equal to their width. In accordance, dimensions in depth also start from the mark in 45 see and end in 90 div. The choice of square shape is not accidental: cooking surfaces are also available with equal width and depth parameters. A, as we already know, the hood cannot have an area of at least, than the stove, over which it is installed.
With built-in models it is different, because the depth in the planning process can be adjusted. However, its body must match the size of the cabinets.
Built-in recirculation models are often equipped with a sliding panel, which increases their depth and, in accordance, work efficiency.
Height selection
If your choice fell on the hood type dome, then the maximum height of such a structure may be 125 div. This should be taken into account when buying: if you subtract the height of the kitchen ceiling from the height of the stove, then the remaining number must be at least the standard values, defined by safety rules. The minimum distance between the plate and the lower surface of the exhaust structure is:
- for gas hob - not less 65 cm;
- for electric stoves - not less 60 div.
For inclined hoods, the installation height should be slightly lower:
- for gas stoves - 550-650 mm,
- for electrical and induction surfaces - 350-450 mm
You do not need to reduce the height: a dangerous situation will arise, and you can ruin the hood. Installation above is also not recommended, because it will reduce efficiency.
It should be noted, that there is no such selection problem for recirculating hoods. After all, these are flat devices, which can be installed at any required height.
The smaller the distance between the kitchen air outlet and the burners, the higher the possibility of formation of condensation on the bottom of the cap rises from water vapor.
This table will help you choose the right size of cleaning device:
Features of the room | Hood height | Depth of the device | Width | The width of the cooking surface |
Large room | The height of the appliance is selected depending on the height of the room and the type of cooking unit | Depth parameters correspond to width dimensions | Dimensions will be an ideal option, which are larger than the cooking surface | The width can be any:
the wide cooking area looks organic in a spacious room. It is the main focus of the interior. |
Small room | The height of the device compensates for the small dimensions of the plate, which saves space | Depth parameters correspond to width dimensions | You should not choose a wide hood, take a look at compact models | For a small room, choose a stove with a narrow table top |
There are many nuances to consider when choosing a kitchen hood, but the most important criteria are size and performance. First you need to decide, what functions should be performed by cleaning equipment: air purification, extracting foreign odors or just as a designer item. Then measure the cooking surface, kitchen area. After, as determined by the main parameters, you need to choose a brand and model, based on preferences and taste.
