Drilling machine NS-12, the design of which was developed by engineers of the Special Design Bureau №3 in Odessa, produced in the 1950-1970's. several enterprises of the USSR, near craft and technical schools. Along with the NS-12 model, a number of its modified versions were produced (NS-12A, NS-12B, NS-12M), the device and complete set of which slightly differed from the basic equipment.

The NS-12 drilling machine belongs to the category of desktop equipment. That says it all, that it is suitable for processing small parts. The design of the drill NS-12 includes the following elements:
- base plate;
- column;
- the hobby, on which the spindle group of the equipment is mounted;
- electrical equipment.
The location of the components of the machine
Column, which is installed on the base plate, fastens on it by means of a special shoe. Along the perimeter of the base plate is a special gutter for collecting coolant. The liquid drains from the gutter through the lower hole, which is closed by a threaded plug. In that case, if the coolant is supplied from a centralized network, the nipple is screwed into the drain hole, to which a rubber hose is connected.
The inner part of the solid base plate is used to accommodate the step-down transformer and the package switch housing, which is responsible for illuminating the treatment area. A push-button station is mounted on the front of the hob, by means of which the main electric motor of the machine is included.
Desktop and column for the NS-12 machine
Vertical movement of a trunk on a column is carried out at the expense of rail transfer, consisting of a rail, fixed to the column, and gears, mounted in the trunk. Control this movement with the handle, rigidly connected to the gear. There is another handle among the controls of the drilling machine, by means of which the trunk is fixed at the required height.
The spindle assembly is mounted on the trunk, also here there is a plate with the electric motor fixed on it and the mechanism for a tension of drive belts. The spindle itself is installed in the sleeve (quills) the machine, which can move in the vertical direction.

Control of movement of a sleeve, that informs the spindle feed movement, is carried out by means of the handle, located on the side of the trunk. Smooth and precise rotation of the spindle is ensured by installing it in the support with precision deep groove ball bearings. Drill spindle pulley, which is a five-stage structure, also mounted on two bearings with radial bearings.

The electric motor of the machine is mounted on a special plate and can move on its guides. This design provides rapid loosening of the drive belt at that time, when it needs to be transferred to another pulley, as well as its rapid tension, when it is necessary to start processing.
How the kinematic scheme of the machine works
The electric motor of the drill rotates a five-stage pulley, fixed on its shaft, torque from which by means of a V-belt is transferred to the pulley of the spindle assembly. Vertical movement of the sleeve and, in accordance, spindle assembly is carried out due to the fixed on it rails and gears, which is rigidly connected to the corresponding control handle.

The trunk of the NS-12 drill moves in the vertical direction also due to the rail transmission, the action of which was described above. In the shoe, mounted on a plate-base, there is a special clamp, after weakening which it is possible to turn a column together with a trunk around the axis.

To ensure the safety of the operator, a cast or elongated welded cover is mounted on the belt drive of the drill.
Including the electrical circuit of the device
This is the characteristic of the machine of this model, as ease of use and repair, determined including the simplicity of the electrical circuit. Elements of the electrical circuit of the drill NS-12, responsible for equipment management, there is a "Start" button, when pressed, the drive motor is started, and the "Stop" button, by means of which the electric motor is disconnected.
The characteristics of the drill include the presence of local lighting, which is included when turning the knob of the corresponding batch switch. The operation of a local lighting system requires the use of a step-down transformer, which is mounted in the immediate vicinity of the machine.
