Rogneda's pear: characteristic, description of the variety and cultivation

Pears, like apples, are very popular fruits in our country. Therefore, these fruit crops are often grown in gardens. Today we will talk about this variety, like Rogneda's pear. This is an early autumn hybrid, which has many advantages and few disadvantages.

Description and characteristics of the variety

The Rogneda variety was obtained by crossing the Variety and Forest Beauty varieties. Work on its breeding was carried out by breeders, working in RGAU-IAU. TO. A. Timiryazev.

Trees of this variety are able to grow up 10 m in height. They are characterized by a trunk structure (without side shoots). The crown is round-oval, compact and sparse. Fruiting occurs primarily on young rings. The leaves are dark green, inverted ovoid. Pear blooms in mid-term, defined for this fruit crop. The flowers themselves are able to tolerate temperature fluctuations.

Fruiting of planted trees occurs in the third year of life. The description of the variety will be incomplete without the characteristics of its fruits. The fruits are usually small and weigh about 120 p. Pears are rounded, but there are also slightly broadly rhomboid, and flat copies.

The skin is tight. Its smooth surface shines in the sun. When ripe, the skin becomes light yellow. There is a red blush. The skin is often strewn with small subcutaneous spots.

The flesh is white or cream. It is slightly oily, has a sweet-tart taste. The fruits emit a nutmeg aroma. They are often used to make compotes and jams.

Harvesting takes place in mid-August. Pears can be removed unripe. Usually harvested for 10 days to full maturity, which is observed in late August. In this case, the fruit can be stored for 2-3 weeks. If you put them in the fridge, then to 3 months.

This variety has the following parameters:

  • early fertility;
  • resistance to many diseases (fruit rot, scab, etc.. d.). This feature greatly simplifies the care of plantations;
  • periodic fruiting. That the harvest was annual, extra ovaries should be removed from the tree (July), as well as after shedding pruning;
  • chastkovo self-pollination. Therefore, next to Rogneda it is necessary to plant pollinator varieties: Visible, In memory of Anzin, Miladya and Chizhovskaya.

Features of cultivation

For planting seedlings of this variety, experts recommend choosing autumn. The best time for planting - early October. If spring is chosen, then planting is performed in April or early May. The main thing here is to have time to bloom.

You need to choose the place of landing carefully, so as not to transplant later. The best soils for this variety will be loam or non-acidic sandy soils. Place, determined for planting seedlings, should be sunny and well ventilated. Groundwater should not come too close to the ground (no closer, than on 2,5 m). Rogneda prefers such conditions. Pear of this variety does not tolerate much water. Therefore, it is watered no more than a month 5 times. Watering is carried out in the morning and evening. A bucket of water should be poured under one tree.

After the beginning of fruiting pears need to be fertilized. exept this, despite good immunity, trees are periodically sprayed with fungicides and other means.

Advantages and disadvantages

Thanks to their cold-resistant ancestors, Rogneda has the following set of qualities in his list of advantages:

  • high cold resistance. Trees tolerate even harsh winters;
  • excellent resistance to various diseases;
  • early fruiting;
  • good fertility. With proper care, one tree is able to bring to 50 kg of harvest;
  • excellent taste of fruits. Pears have an original taste;
  • beautiful fruits, which outwardly resemble apples;
  • relatively long storage (in the refrigerator to 3 months);
  • fruits tolerate transportation well;
  • simple care.

This variety is considered an excellent breeding material. However, its description has drawbacks. For example, trees of this species have periodic fruiting. exept this, fruits when ripe are prone to shedding. The color of pears is not always expressive. This can worsen their appearance.

As we see, a variety of pear called Rogneda will be a great addition to your garden.
