Stainless steel corrugation for the chimney: see, which lead to overheating of the gasoline or diesel engine, installation

The chimney is one of the most significant and important elements of boiler equipment. The efficiency of the heating system largely depends on it, the nature of fuel combustion and removal of combustion products. Modern chimneys are made of different materials. There is also metal, and ceramic, and brick, and even a glass pipe. For a chimney of complex configuration it is best to use a corrugated metal channel.

Corrugated pipes can be used to install new chimneys and upgrade existing ones

Technical indicators of a corrugated pipe from stainless steel

Among the important technical indicators of corrugated stainless steel pipes can be distinguished:

  • operating temperature: -50 ° С - + 110 ° C;
  • pressure at operating temperature in + 110 ° C: 15 there is;
  • possible bending radius of the product depending on the diameter of the pipe: 25-150 mm;
  • thermal conductivity: 17 W / (m * TO);
  • linear expansion: 17;
  • roughness factor: 0,008.

The corrugated pipe is resistant to pressure drops (threshold value 50 atm). The maximum pressure for destruction is 210 atm. Other indicators of pipes are given in the table.

Types of flexible pipes for flues

The modern market of corrugated pipes offers different types of these products. But not all of them meet safety requirements and can be used for the chimney. There are structures made of aluminum and stainless steel.

A safe chimney for a fireplace or stove can only be built of stainless steel pipes and components

Some time ago, aluminum pipes were used for column chimneys and gas heaters. This multilayer corrugation is a pipe made of laminated foil, having a diameter 10-15 cm. It is strong and cheap. In order to give the desired shape inside inserted ??steel wire.

In the compressed state, the aluminum pipe has a length 650 mm, when stretching - to 3 meters. You can increase the air duct with metal tape.

pay attention! For boilers and fireplaces, running on solid fuel, aluminum pipe is not installed, because it is not able to withstand high temperatures.

Currently, such corrugation is not recommended for use.

Stainless steel corrugated pipes are structurally similar to aluminum, but their characteristics are much better. The material can withstand temperatures up to 900 ° C without damaging the design of the channel and at the same time effectively remove the products of combustion of devices on liquid, solid and other fuels (boilers, fireplaces, ovens).

Design of corrugated products

Corrugated stainless steel chimney pipe is made of multilayer foil. Its stripes (thickness 0,12-1 mm) are connected by a special locking method and fixed to the spring, made of stainless steel. This design allows you to bend the pipe on 120-180 ° and stretch it to length, exceeding the original, more than in 3 times. Stretching procedure / compression can be repeated several times without compromising the integrity of the pipe.

Depending on the power of the boiler or furnace, a corrugated pipe of larger or smaller diameter is selected

Stainless steel corrugated chimneys are available in different diameters, which allows you to choose the right size, corresponding to the outlet of the heater.

In order to increase the service life of the chimney, it is treated with a special solution as from the inside, and the outside. This manipulation protects the material of the channel from chemically active substances and aggressive media. The minimum service life of a metal corrugated pipe for a chimney makes 20 years.

Installation of corrugated flues requires insulation. Basalt wool acts as a heater for such pipes, available in rolls. It is also suitable for indoor use, and for outdoor installation. Insulation corrugated stainless steel pipe is not heated from the outside.

The main characteristics of corrugated pipes

Corrugated stainless steel for chimneys has a round cross section. Its standard length in many cases allows you to get a flue without unnecessary joints.

pay attention! The tightness of the chimney directly depends on the number of connections, which are used for its collection: the fewer joints, the better.

Corrugated pipe is very flexible, it can be given any shape without special corners and taps

Stainless steel is the main material for making corrugated flues. She is strong, has anticorrosive properties and heat resistant, which increases the service life of products. Condensation forms inside the duct when the boiler or furnace is ignited, containing some H2SO4 (sulfuric acid), which disables many chimneys made of other materials. Therefore, this type of pipe is used more often than others.

The design of the stainless steel pipe increases the mechanical strength of the entire channel due to compensation (to 50%) linear expansion of the initial size of the pipe under the influence of temperatures and vibrations.

Important when choosing the type of chimney pipes is the ability to take different shapes and configurations. The corrugation allows to carry out repair and to establish it in the channel, having a large number of bends. When buying a corrugated pipe, it is necessary to check it for mechanical damage or bends, so that there are no problems during installation.

Pros and cons of corrugations

Corrugated pipe can be used for any flue systems, even at very high gas temperatures, departing.

Another advantage of corrugated pipes is the ease of connecting the two segments

It is resistant to:

  • humidity;
  • high temperatures;
  • chemically aggressive environments.

This pipe is used not only for the chimney, but also in air conditioning and ventilation systems. Its flexibility allows you to easily install a chimney in the presence of complex architectural structures: ceilings with a slope, floor beams, built-in columns, etc.. D. This feature of stainless steel corrugation for the chimney reduces the cost and complexity of installation work.

No expensive components are required for installation (adapters, corners, taps); it is important, if budget is limited. Other advantages include the possibility of connecting pipes of different diameters into one structure. Special adapters are used for this purpose.

The disadvantages of corrugated pipes are few: short service life and the need for insulation to combat condensation. in addition, thrust in the corrugation is much lower, than in a smooth pipe, therefore it is not recommended to carry out on all length the vertical channel from such product.

The diameter of the boiler pipe must match the size of the mounted pipe

Requirements for the installation of flue ducts

There are some important requirements to follow when installing flexible chimneys, which will ensure reliable and efficient operation of the channel. Among them stand out:

  • execution of fastening by means of the adapter;
  • the correspondence of the diameter of the flue of the cross-section of the outlet of a specific heater;
  • placing the corrugated pipe in a fireproof case when passing through the mezzanine floor;
  • providing double wall thickness of the outer protective cover in order to ensure the preservation of the structure in the event of possible damage to the outer layer;
  • tight fastening of a corrugated pipe to heating system, preventing gas leaks;
  • the length of the section of the channel from the bottom of the pipe to the horizontal section of the flexible chimney is not less 50 cm;
  • ensuring the radius of rounding of the installation of corrugated pipe not less than its diameter;
  • the distance from the wall or ceiling to the connecting pipe is not less 50 mm in the case of their performance of non-combustible material;
  • in the case of a wall made of another material, this distance must be at least 250 mm;
  • ensuring vertical connection to the boiler;
  • the total length of the installed horizontal sections is not more than three meters;
  • installation of a flexible chimney with a slope to the gas equipment more 0,01 degrees.

All materials, which are used to fasten the pipe and in contact with it, must be non-combustible

Installation of a corrugated pipe from stainless steel

Corrugated pipe can be used for the device adapters, which connect the outlet of the device with the main channel of the chimney, repair (lining) have bends of brick flues. For them it is possible as external, and internal installation.

Fastening of a corrugated corrugation for a flue is made by special arms from metal. They are either included in the pipe, or implemented as a separate retaining element. Fixation is provided by usual clamps, which are tightened with a wrench.

pay attention! When installing horizontal sections of corrugated pipes, it is necessary to exclude their sagging.

At installation no more than three turns of a corrugated chimney are allowed. Metal tape is used to join the two pipes, which provides high tightness of the docking unit and prevents leakage of combustion products. No sealant is required during installation to seal the chimney joints.

Stainless steel corrugated pipe can be a good alternative to the use of rigid ducts, despite the shorter service life.
